Position Summary: The Cyber-Risk Coordination Center (C3) intern will assists with organizing, coordinating, and tracking the operational activities of the C3 including C3-internal and customer events, information security awareness training, specialized technical training, and executive briefings. The intern will monitor external information sources for indications of elevated risk to UC information resources prepare metrics on a variety of sources including threat detection and identification tools, alerts, and incident reports. C3 provides its services to UC customers across the entire system; primarily to staff holding cyber security roles but also indirectly to all staff, faculty, and students through security awareness activities. C3 interns will learn various skills related to C3 services including how to analyze cyber related data and create reports, develop cyber related security awareness content, and develop presentations on cyber related subjects. C3 interns will participate on project teams such as RFP coordination, incident reporting, phishing simulation, threat intelligence, risk assessments, and security awareness.
The Cyber-Risk Coordination Center (C3) internship is offered as part of a student internship program in Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University of California Office of the President for summer 2020. This is a paid internship designed for currently enrolled college students interested in information technology, including data visualization, quality assurance, and marketing/communications.
Participants will: Propose, develop, implement, and present projects. Learn about IT operations. Gain experience working with IT managers and staff. Network with other interns at social and other events.

Under supervision, organizes and prepares C3 communications materials (documents, reports, announcements, presentations) for C3, customer, and public consumption. Collects data for and prepares dashboards reporting on C3 activities and the state of Information Security at UC. Prepares metrics on a variety of sources including threat detection and identification tools, alerts, and incident reports.
Assists with organizing, planning, scheduling, and facilitating C3-internal and customer events including information security awareness training, specialized technical training, customer sessions, executive briefings, and systemwide cybersecurity events.
Awareness & Outreach:
Assists with organizing, coordinating, and tracking the operational activities of the C3. Includes taking requests for information and C3 services and directing inquiries to the appropriate C3 team members. Monitors external information sources for indications of elevated risk to UC information resources. Takes in, responds to, documents, and tracks information security technical inquiries made to the C3. Assists with determining customer requirements for information security technical shared/common solutions, and assists in identifying technologies that address the requirements, assists in preparing feasibility studies, solutions comparisons and cost benefit analyses.
Knowledge/Skills: Currently enrolled college student. An interest in information technology and desire to learn. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to be flexible and adaptable as priorities evolve. Ability to work well with ambiguity and experimentation, and to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal and oral communications skills.
